As I have asked in another thread, without anyone helping, I know resort to asking here. I was told to go to the Alien Swarm website and add the game to my steam. This initiates the download of the game. I was then also told to stop this download if you do not want to spend cap on it. I was then also told to download the Alien Swarm game files from someone at OC. I did all of this.

My Problem:

I have no idea what to do now. I tried to find a way to add the game, but with no luck. Can you even do it this way, or was I being led on by some retard. I can't find anything on Google. So please if you know, please post it.

the retard you refering to is probably me ... but anyways, there should be a folder called steamapps if i remember correctly ... under that folder somewhere there should also be a folder for alien swarm, if not then you didnt initiate the download properly and steam hasnt registered that you actually have the game or registered/bought it evens tho its free.

once you found that alien swarm folder, overwrite it with the one you copied from OC, then when you log on to steam it will verify the files and do an update for the game ...

im guessing someone should have rather done a backup of the game and let steam create installation files for it ... oh well, we live and learn ...

For anyone else this is how you go to work to add Alien Swarm's game files to steam, if you downloaded them at OC.

1.) Download Alien Swarm game files from someone else.
2.) Go here, and click on the install button.
3.) Follow all the prompts etc, until the game starts to download. Give it a minute or 5, so that it can start creating folders.
4.) Copy the game files you downloaded to <drive>:\<something>\Steam\Steamapps\<SteamID>\Common
5.) As you will see, the game has started to download into this folder, pause the download, and paste the game files here.
6.) Go back to steam, and resume the download. It will now hash through all the files, as if its downloading, and add a few updated files. This takes a minute or 5
7.) ????
8.) Profit. Play the game
